Degollada de las Yeguas

Viewpoints in Gran Canaria Degollada de las Yeguas

Where is it? On the road GC 60, 15 km from Maspalomas in the direction of Fataga is this amazing viewpoint.

What are you going to see? While you are ascending towards the summits of Gran Canaria and when you have just left the south coast, you will find yourself with a sudden change of landscape. In front of you is going to unfold a deep ravine surrounded by vertical walls and covered with vegetation. At the background, you will observe the “valley of the thousand palms” of Fataga. In the upper part, you will see the Pico de las Nieves. And if you turn around you will contemplate a beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean and the Dunes of Maspalomas.

Pico de las Nieves Viewpoint

Where is it? Almost in the geographic centre of Gran Canaria, this viewpoint is accessible by road from any point of the island.

What are you going to see? To the west, you will discover the views of the Parque Rural del Nublo: A magnificent grove of Canarian pines, crowned by Roque Nublo and Bentayga. In the days of good visibility, you will have a spectacular view of Tenerife and El Teide. On days when there are low clouds, the trees disappear; but an amazing image appears in which Teide and Roque Nublo seem to touch each other. To the east, you can see the coast of Arinaga and, a little further south, Maspalomas.

Llanos de la Mimbre

Where is it? Located in the heart of the Tamadaba pine forest, it is one of the most difficult places to get on the island; so we recommend that you go with a guide.

What are you going to see? Just the road to get here, in an immense forest of Canarian pines, is worth it; but the image you are going to discover is priceless. On your left, you will see the Risco Faneque, the highest cliff in Europe with 1,027 meters. In front of you the immense ocean and the island of Tenerife; and at your feet the wild west coast of Gran Canaria. On your right, the Puerto de las Nieves, the lighthouse of Sardina and the mountain of Gáldar appear like a fairytale image. For sure, the most spectacular and hidden of the viewpoints in Gran Canaria.

El Balcón viewpoint

Where is it? In the west side of the island, next to La Aldea, on the old road “El Andén Verde”.

What are you going to see? The west coast of Gran Canaria is a succession of deep and vertiginous cliffs that fall directly on the sea. The origin of this landscape is a collapse of rocks that has led to this unique landscape. From this viewpoint you can contemplate the “dragon tail”; the native vegetation composed mainly of tribals and the flight of different birds such as gulls, crows or kestrels taking advantage of the thermals that are created in this area.

Maspalomas Dunes viewpoint

Where is it? The interpretation centre and viewpoint of the Dunes of Maspalomas are located in the heart of the tourist area of Maspalomas. Very easy to access, it is one of the most photographed and most published points on social networks.

What are you going to see? Along with the lighthouse, this is undoubtedly the most iconic image of Maspalomas. It is not just another beach, it is a 400-hectare sandy area that includes a special nature reserve consisting of the pond, the palm grove and the dunes; a beach of almost 6,000 meters in length where you will find different areas and environments (family beaches, nudist areas, surfing spots and water sports, etc.); and of course the sun, since in this area we have an average of 259 sunny days a year compared to 13 when the sky is covered.

El Atlante viewpoint

Where is it? This sculpture created by Tony Gallardo with pieces of magma represents an anthropomorphic figure with arms raised towards the ocean. It is located on the highway GC 2 and you can get here either by car or walking from the city.

What are you going to see? You have just arrived at the entrance to the north coast of Gran Canaria, an area where the ocean shows its wildest face, with large waves that break on the vertical walls creating a spectacular image. On your right, you can see the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with Las Canteras beach and the Isleta in the background.

These are our favourite viewpoints that we can show you on our guided tours of Gran Canaria where you can enjoy an unforgettable day. Do you want to come with us?
