Things to do in Maspalomas

The Maspalomas dunes and beach:

Maspalomas has a unique sand dunes area in the Canary Islands with a total surface area of 400 hectares. Along the 8 kilometres of coastline between Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés, you can enjoy this incredible spectacle of nature.

faro de Maspalomas

Maspalomas lighthouse:

The oldest building in the area, its construction began in 1861 and its activity started in 1890. Together with the dunes, it is the symbol and iconic image of Maspalomas. It currently houses an ethnographic museum where you can discover the history of the south of Gran Canaria.

maspalomas charca

La Charca:

Inside the Maspalomas Special Reserve, at the back of the lighthouse, you will find this brackish lake where different species of endemic and migratory birds nest. A special place to relax and spend the day.

LGTBIQ+:

Maspalomas is undoubtedly characterised by its open-mindedness and inclusive spirit. Therefore, all people of any sexual orientation, but also of any origin or ideology, are welcome.

tapas in Maspalomas

The local area (bars, restaurants & shopping):

In Maspalomas there is a local area in which some 40,000 people currently live. We invite you to stroll through the shopping areas of Bellavista and Avenida de Galdar, where you can enjoy an afternoon of shopping and tapas in one of the many bars and terraces that you will find in the area.

maspalomas market

The markets:

There are different open-air markets during the week. The most famous one takes place every Wednesday and Saturday in Playa del Inglés (Parque Europeo); but in addition to this, every Sunday you can visit the flea market (next to the football fields). Finally, every 2 weeks on Sunday, in the town hall car park, there is a farmer’s market where you can buy local km 0 products.

sunset in Maspalomas

The sunset spots:

Maspalomas es un lugar idílico para contemplar la puesta de sol. Nuestros favoritos son: el paseo del faro de Maspalomas en verano, las dunas y la playa de San Agustín en invierno.

Botanical garden & green areas:

The Tony Gallardo botanical park is open every day from 9.00 to 13.00. In addition to this, there are a multitude of parks and green areas such as the Parque Sur, the Palmeral, the multifunctional parks of Maspalomas and El Tablero, and a long etcetera, in which you will take a walk while children enjoy!

If there is one tour guide you have to choose it's this one This is our second year together in Gran Canaria and we had such a great time last year with Ines and Juan (and Lupita!) we intentionally looked to do another tour with the Sky Rebels team. As always we had a fantastic time, the hike wasn't difficult, the scenery and the forest itself is incredible to walk through, we learnt a tonne about the island and Ines and Juan made it hilarious throughout! We can't wait to go back next year and we'll definitely be doing another tour with them!

An Absolute Must when visiting Gran Canaria! We recently completed this tour of Gran Canaria with Sky Rebels and cannot rate it highly enough. You may think it is a little expensive but, trust me, it really isn’t. You will have a maximum of six people and three guides. Juanjo who is an excellent driver, Inez an excellent guide and Lupita who is, well……Lupita! You will drive on roads that are not usually accessible by larger vehicles, the scenery is mind blowingly spectacular but you are completely safe in the expert hands of Juanjo. What makes this tour special and different to the others is not only the areas visited but also the fabulous history and myths that you will learn. Most are, undoubtedly, true and some you will wish were true! Juan and Inez will introduce you to some of the ancient Gods of Gran Canaria, you will appeal to the sun god Magec and, who knows, some magic may happen! Last, but not least, you will enjoy a delicious lunch in the open air of Canarian specialities prepared with love by Inez and accompanied by your choice of beverages. Juan and Inez (and Lupita!) are not only the nicest people you could hope to meet but are also local Canarians whose love and enthusiasm for their islands shines through.

Amazing! It was just amazing! We did not expect what we got: the most funny and friendly guides, the most interesting stories of Gran Canaria and they chose three amazing locations. We did not know that we would be able to see an historical cave from the inside! One of the best parts for me were the Details they planned. They played amazing, fitting music in the car, which gave me goosebumps, while driving through the beautiful landscape (especially the national anthem of Gran Canaria). We learned so much during that trip. It was just great!

Baranco de las Vacas Wow, absolutely stunning. Once again Inès, Juan and Labita make this trip so worth doing with their local knowledge, their passion for this amazing country. The Baranco de las Vacas is stunning. At the time we get there it's empty which allows you to appreciate the scenery. Then leaving there you are transported to the caves. Seeing these caves and what their inhabitants used them for is still amazing. Then finally a walk through a Canarian village. I can't fault this tour whatsoever. The guides are knowledgeable, professional and very passionate about the island and it shows. So a massive thank you to you all.

  • From the cultivated plains of the east coast to the dramatic mountain landscapes of the summit, our “petrified storm”, presided over by Pico de las Nieves and Roque Nublo.
  • From desert areas such as the sand dunes of Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles to the hidden primary forests in the North.
  • From traditional fishing villages like Agaete to popular tourist resorts like Puerto Rico.
