Find the 8 best things to do in Maspalomas (2023)

These are the best 8 things to do in Maspalomas

Maspalomas is one of the world’s leading sun and beach tourist destinations. Its most iconic images are the Maspalomas Dunes and the lighthouse. But in addition to all this, in Maspalomas you can enjoy multiple activities, natural spaces, leisure areas with bars and restaurants, shopping centres and one of the best climates in the world.

Here are the best 8 things to do in Maspalomas:

  1. The Maspalomas dunes and beach
  2. The lighthouse
  3. La Charca
  4. LGTBIQ+
  5. The local area (bars, restaurants & shopping)
  6. Maspalomas market
  7. The sunset spots
  8. Botanical garden and green areas
  9. Day trips and excursions
Maspalomas sand dunes

The Maspalomas dunes and beach:

Maspalomas has a unique sand dunes area in the Canary Islands with a total surface area of 400 hectares. Along the 8 kilometres of coastline between Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés, you can enjoy this incredible spectacle of nature.

faro de Maspalomas

The lighthouse:

The oldest building in the area, its construction began in 1861 and its activity started in 1890. Together with the dunes, it is the symbol and iconic image of Maspalomas. It currently houses an ethnographic museum where you can discover the history of the south of Gran Canaria.

maspalomas charca

La Charca:

Inside the Maspalomas Special Reserve, at the back of the lighthouse, you will find this brackish lake where different species of endemic and migratory birds nest. A special place to relax and spend the day.

LGTBIQ+:

Maspalomas is undoubtedly characterised by its open-mindedness and inclusive spirit. Therefore, all people of any sexual orientation, but also of any origin or ideology, are welcome.

The local area (bars, restaurants & shopping):

In Maspalomas there is a local area in which some 40,000 people currently live. We invite you to stroll through the shopping areas of Bellavista and Avenida de Galdar, where you can enjoy an afternoon of shopping and an aperitif in one of the many bars and terraces.

maspalomas market

The markets:

There are different open-air markets during the week. The most famous one takes place every Wednesday and Saturday in Playa del Inglés (Parque Europeo); but in addition to this, every Sunday you can visit the flea market (next to the football fields). Finally, every other Sunday in the town hall car park, there is a farmer’s market where you can buy local products from km.0.

sunset in Maspalomas

The sunset spots:

Maspalomas is an idyllic place to watch the sunset. Our favourites are: the Maspalomas lighthouse promenade, the dunes and the beach of San Agustín.

Botanical garden & green areas:

The Tony Gallardo botanical park is open every day from 9.00 to 13.00. In addition to this, there are a multitude of parks and green areas such as the Parque Sur, the Palmeral, the multifunctional parks of Maspalomas and El Tablero, and a long etcetera.

Don’t hesitate to book We were collected in Puerto de Mogan for an all day tour of the Sacred Mountains. We were driven in comfort and felt very safe driven by Juanjo and ‘Lupita’. A wonderful homemade lunch prepared by Inés was provided. This couple delivered a fun day combining the perfect balance of information, humour and rest breaks. On a somewhat cloudy day our guides used their local knowledge to give us the best route on the day. They are passionate about sharing their knowledge with visitors and our remaining time in Gran Canaria has been enhanced by our day with them. We look forward to future trips and recommend highly.

Fab experience! I booked the trip for myself and 5 friends. We were picked up from our hotel by our guides Ines and Juanjo and the 8 of us set off. They made the trip great fun and I loved the fact it was a small group. Everything was explained along the way and we participated in finding the route to the caves. We had a fabulous day both in the caves, seeing the lovely country side and the visit to the small village.I'd highly recommend this trip! Thanks so much to Ines and Juanjo for making it a trip to remember!

Best experience in Gran Canaria It was absolutely amazing! We visited stunningly beautiful hidden natural and cultural places that we would have never found on our own. Our guides, Ines and Juan were super nice and told us a lot about the history and the nature of the island in the most interesting way. They have really planned every detail of the tour and have made it a magical and very special experience. We can’t wait to come to Gran Canaria again and go to tours with them again.

A great experience Ines, Juan and... (Lupita) are a fab team. I did the Roque Nublo tour and it was amazing. Unfortunately on the day the weather at the very top was not ideal to walk, but they had a plan b at hand. Food was amazing, very personable guides and they have a fountain on knowledge of Gran Canaria. If you like visiting food markets, just ask them about it. I shall be returning next year and will be book onto another tour. See you next year!

Wow wow wow This is the second activity that I have done with these guys. They are truly all about your safety and giving you as much history of the islands, as you want to take in.Notified a day before of pickup and time and then driven in their own unique way back in history to the caves and revine, followed by a visit to the salt pans. A most enjoyable 4 hours of, off the beaten track tours.I highly recommend any of these tours, but a certain level of fitness is needed. On our return to this wonderful island, we for sure will try another tour.

Great day with Ines and Juanio diving into the true Gran Canaria Ines and Juanio introduced us to their great love, Gran Canaria, an island rich of history and treasures which go far beyond the beach life that most people associate with this fabulous holiday destination. We spent a lovely day and enjoyed the passion and stories they shared with us, not to forget the fabulous home made food which we ate in the middle of Canarian pine trees close to the Pico de las Nieves.Thank you for this great experience 🙏🏻

Fantastic A very short review. Juan and Ines are Brilliant. Tour was Brilliant. Food was Brilliant. A pair of "nutters" if ever there was. We had two groups of 5 on different days and we all felt the same. Great little hike to Roque Nublo. You should do this trip

  • From the cultivated plains of the east coast to the dramatic mountain landscapes of the summit, our “petrified storm”, presided over by Pico de las Nieves and Roque Nublo.
  • From desert areas such as the sand dunes of Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles to the hidden primary forests in the North.
  • From traditional fishing villages like Agaete to popular tourist resorts like Puerto Rico.
